Organic Wine. Our Spanish winery, Bodegas Robles has a tradition of wines that are virtually free of chemical residues. In the south of Spain (with temperatures which vary between -5º and 45ºC) pests remain al such low levels that our winegrowers have never used more than a minimum number of preventive treatments and the vineyards have long been close to organic. Such growing methods used by our parents and grandparents give precisely what fine winemakers seek: smaller harvests of high quality grapes expressing the full character of the wine, variety without the muddied aromas or taste of residual chemicals. This principle has long guides our family´s way of life.

The further stregth of this tradition has seen the developing by our winemaking team of organic wine PIEDRA LUENGA, our first and only certified organic wine of Andalusia submitted to a Denomination of Origin.

Currently, organic wine is defined as "wine made from organically grown grapes". In order for a vineyard to be classed as organic, we must be able to prove which vineyards the grapes came from, which officially recognized body certified the vineyard as organic, and from what date certified organic practices began.

Conventional agricultural practices, adopted in large part over the past 50 years, have stripped the minerals essential for healthy crops from the soil, necessitating the increasing use of artificial help to replace what has been lost.

Organic is more than simply way of farming. It is also a philosophy. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "We did not inherit the Earth from our forefathers, we are borrowing it from our descendants.

In the winery, "organic wine" suggests minimal processing and no use of chemical additives. Our winemaking team pay particul attention to of yeasts and the physical treatment of the organic wine. Careful selection of the grapes during harvesting and cellar hygiene are essencial to keep the use of sulphite preservatives after fermentation at a minimun.

Our organic vineyards choose organic methods to obtain the ripest and richest grapes possible, with the fewest detrimental effects on the environment, and our PIEDRA LUENGA ORGANIC WINE range reflects that dedication to quality.

PIEDRA LUENGA Organic Wine is Certified by:

The "Comité Andaluz de Agricultura Ecológica" (CAAE). CAAE is a member of the Internation Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements (IFOAM) and the only organization recognized by the Spanish government to control and certificate the organic agriculture in Andalusia (south of Spain), in accordance with the European Union regulation.

"Calidad Certificada". It is the mark created by La Junta de Andalucía (across the Council of Agriculture and Fishing) to identify to the products for its quality, safety and respect for the environment.

The Organic Wine PIEDRA LUENGA also carries the European Union logo for organic farming, which certifies that Organic Wine PIEDRA LUENGA is submitted through all the stages of production, preparation and marketing to an inspection system which guarantees the respect of the authenticity of products and the compliance of the specifications related to organic production method, in accordance with the European Union , regulation (CEE 2092/91). In addition it display the stamp of the UDSA , on having fulfilled the Norms of Production and Certification Organics (NOP) of the Department of Agriculture of the EEUU.
